A Proud PAPA - Based upon the Blessing of God
A Proud PAPA - Based upon the Blessing of God
My daughter just graduated from J. I Burton High School in Norton Virginia. She was fifth in her class (Okay proud PAPA). She has a love for life and the Lord that is an exciting and excellent witness of the Lord’s promises fullfilled. Now for those that know me know that this brings me great joy. You also know that it causes me to contemplate all that God has promised, has done and is doing in the life of this daughter of mine. Now I will not go into all the many things that God has done in blessing our family through this daughter but I do want to list the blessings, duties and place that my children and ALL believers' children have in the household of faith. Oh what joy to see God work!
God is consistent in all HE does with our children in the household of faith! This is clearly seen in the parallel passages of scripture in Deuteronomy 6:4-7 and Ephesians 6:1-4. Our Children are in a very special relationship with God and with us as the parent. The parental responsibilitles, children obediences and the promised blessings in the family of faith. Praise God he is a God of the family! Listed below is an overview of the place our children and blessings they and all children in the kingdom of God have consistently throughout history.
The Blessings To And The Place of Our Children in the Household of Faith:
1. Duties of the Parents to Serve The Children Through Instruction and Disciplship
Old Testament- "Command his children to keep the way of the LORD" (Gen 18:19)
New Testament - "Bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord" (Eph 6:4)
2. The Blessed Duties of Our Children Toward Their Parents
Old Testament - "Honor your father and mother" (Exo 20:12)
New Testament - "Obey your parents" (Eph 6:2).
3. Blessings Placed Upon Our Children
Old Testament- Live long in the land" (Exo 20:12)
New Testament - "Live long on the earth" (Eph 6:3).
4. Our Children Are Called To Blessed Obedience To The Word
Old Testament - "Your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes " (Deu 6:2)
New Testament - "Continue in the things [Scripture] you have learned" from infancy (2Ti 3:14-15).
5. Household Leadership In Service of the Lord
Old Testament - "As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD" (Jos 24:15)
New Testament - The jailer "rejoiced greatly, with all his household" (Act 16:34, ASV).
6. Promise of the Blessed Holy Spirit Upon Our Children
Old Testament- "I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring" (Isa 44:3)
New Testament - "For the promise [of the Spirit] is to you and your children" (Act 2:39).
7. Continued Generational Duration Of Blessings
Old Testament - "To a thousandth generation" with those who love Him and keep His commandments" (Deu 7:9)
New Testament - "His mercy is upon generation after generation toward those who fear Him" (Luk 1:50).
8. Our Children are Marked or Signed Placed Upon Our Children By God Himself!
Old Testament - "All the men of [Abraham's] household...were circumcised" (Gen 17:27)
New Testament - The jailer"was baptized, he and all his household" (16:33) (Cornelius', Lydia's, Crispus', Stephanus' households, too)
I am a proud parent! MY pride is from the Lord. He has given the means, methods and blessings. Dear parents lets never forget what God is doing in the lives of our children. Also lets never forget the covenantal promises of God upon them either! Amen
